“…For the first 15 years, I did it for the praise. For me, only in the last three years have I started trying to be as honest as I can and not care as much about what other people think. I think it’s only at that point that you are a real good standup or, for that matter, a good creative anything.
The day you just do it and not think about how it’s going to be received, or if people will like it. Some people just start off that way doing what they think is good. Some people have to learn that. Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t want people to like what you do. You should. But it shouldn’t be the foundation of your creative process.
