Comedian Doug Stanhope returns to Montreal to headline his Just For Laughs rival comedy event, Just for Spite Festival, Friday and Saturday, July 24-25 at Cafe Chaos. This year, the comedian is inviting Just for Laughs performers to join him on the bill. “Cross-over performers will probably have to perform in disguises and under assumed names so to not incur the impotent rage of the Just For Laughs people who walk on them like cheap shoes, he warns.
Stanhope welcomes comics and fans “to share a beer and cry at the realization that Just For Laughs hasn’t been relevant since 1998.” The former star of The Man Show says that the festival’s paying audiences are used as focused groups for “Hollywood half-wits” looking for the next big sitcom star.
